Avocados: The Sneaky-Amazing Super [Duper] Food

How nutritious are avocados, really?

Avocados are a super nutrient rich, fatty food.  The good kind of fat that our bodies need!  They are packed full of antioxidants and lots of different vitamins such as Vit. E, Potassium, Vit. C, Vit. B9 ( Folate) and Vit K.  They are low in carbohydrates, the carbs that are included in the avocado are mainly dietary fiber.  Fiber is the good guy, these carbs are your friend.  Oh and guess what…  our little green friends have more potassium than a banana!  Avocados are totally mini green superheroes here to help us snack healthy if you ask us.


Spice those avocados up!

BOOM! A delicious, easy recipe for guacamole with a little added kick and packed of full of added protein. Yumm!  Grab some fresh ingredients, some chips, a spoon or some other vessel to get the good stuff to your mouth and EAT UP!

?: Remember all recipes can be altered to your own preference, substitute and add to your little taste buds desire.

3-4 medium size avocados (more or less depending on how much you’re willing to share)

2-3 cloves of garlic minced

½ – one whole hot pepper of your liking finely chopped (I used serrano)

¼ of an onion finely chopped (red or sweet white/yellow are the best)

½ cup of plain greek yogurt (This is where the added protein comes from)

Juice from 1 lime

Salt added to taste

Sprinkle of nutritional yeast (optional)

?: I did a small batch with different protein sources: cream cheese, small log of goat cheese, and silken tofu.  The greek yogurt and cream cheese were top contenders and kid approved!  If you like goat cheese, you’ll love that added in.  Silken tofu for those of us that don’t eat dairy.


End result? Get in my mouth deliciousness!

All ingredients can be mixed by hand or if you’re using a food processor, pulse hot pepper, garlic, lime and onion until finely chopped.  Add the avocado, yogurt ( or whichever protein add in you choose) and salt.  Pulse until smooth.  Using a food processor makes this guac extra smooth and creamy, while mixing by hand makes it a little chunkier, again totally up to you and your preference.  Hope you all enjoy this healthy yummy snack!
